A Done Deal

Alastair’s Photo Fiction Sunday hosts this 150 word Flash Fiction Challenge.

A unique thing here is that Alastair takes the photos used in the challenge.  Please see the copyright notice at the bottom of this page.

The rules are simple: The story must include the photo-prompt with the word count not to exceed 150.

Enjoy!

A DONE DEAL

Tony stood on the pier as dawn broke through, bringing to light the beginning of his end.

How they thought he’d rat on them was beyond him; broke his heart really.  Twenty-two years of being poor and picking the meager bones of his territory, but never once talking out of turn.

But they tried to put him down anyway.

It’s all right.  They’re safe.

Janine and Tony Jr. were on their way to Miami.  He’d done good.

They’d be coming for him again.  He could give them one hell of a ride before they shot him down.

Nah, he was through fighting,  Enough blood had been spilled.  His family was safe.  That was all he’d fought for.

He wouldn’t have to wait long.  They’d be here soon.

He threw his gun into the bay, and watch the tug dance around the crane barge as he heard the cars pull up behind him.

Thanks. I didn’t feel like going overboard with story. I instead wanted to give it to character. This is what came out without much thought really, as is typical of my favorite pieces.
